5 Reasons Why Instagram Will Supercharge Your Ecommerce Store Sales!

The ‘build it and they will come’ strategy simply doesn’t work for websites anymore, making a more proactive approach essential. You can’t sit back and wait for people to rush through your virtual doors. So, what’s the solution? If your business is looking for ways to reach out and connect with customers, kickstarting a social media campaign should be at the top of your to-do list.

Platforms such as Twitter, Pinterest and LinkedIn offer business owners the opportunity to directly interact with people and build stronger, longer-lasting relationships. For ecommerce sites, this is especially important – loyal customers are few and far between – but which is the best social media platform for you?

Each platform has its own pros and cons, some suiting one industry but not another. In this post, we’ll be throwing Instagram’s hat into the ring. And here’s why…

• Engagement

Many would automatically opt for Facebook, but it’s worth noting that while 32% of Facebook users actively engage with businesses and brands, more than double that number do the same on Instagram. 68% in fact!

• Bigger Baskets

When all the major social media platforms are compared, ecommerce customers emanating from Instagram have the 2nd highest average order value. What does this mean? Instagram users make bigger purchases!

• Organic Reach

According to Instagram, users might miss as much as 70% of the posts on their feed. So, they only see around 30%, which doesn’t sound great. However, if you compare this to other major platforms, the results are shocking.

A tweet can expect to reach around 3.61% of followers, while a LinkedIn post can hope to record a 20% organic reach. According to Facebook’s Engineering Director Lars Backstrom, a post by a business page on the platform could reach less than 2% of their followers. Similarly, a study by Locowise suggested that a page with over one million likes could expect an average organic reach of 2.27%. So, even if you have 100,000 followers, reaching only 200 of your followers would be a push!

• Going Viral

Going viral on social media is every marketing manager’s dream, but which is the best platform to increase the likelihood of this happening? According to TrackMaven, the platform with the best chance of viral content is – you guessed it! – Instagram. On average, almost 50% of photos and 60% of videos reach over 250 interactions, making it the top performer by a hefty margin.

• Bandwagon

93% of marketers are already using Facebook, so it is a saturated platform. You’ll find that many of your competitors are already miles ahead on Facebook, so you’ll be playing catch up from day one. Conversely, only 36% have adopted Instagram, so there’s plenty of room left at the table and elbow room to spare.
